Saa’ir grew up as an only child in a small farming village along the Indus River valley in the Sindh province of Pakistan. He tended to his mother and their home and to the date palms alongside his father. His parents often reminded him of the good fortune that blessed their family following his birth; the air about the village felt clearer and cleaner, the soil richer, and the trees along the riverbank became the most fruitful in the region. Saa’ir’s mother, in particular, was a deeply spiritual woman and taught him the importance of stillness, gratitude, and intention. As he grew, so did his reverence for his people, the land, and for the forces of nature which helped them flourish. Later in life, after his parents had both passed, Saa’ir left the family farm to the village and traveled to Karachi. Even there, some of the people he encountered would mention a “lightening of the spirit” when he was near. For a time he was a dedicated healer in the city and was beloved by many. It seemed then that Saa’ir might have lived a rather modest and peaceful life, but it all changed when rumors began to circulate about a strange “horned devil” appearing west of the city by the sea cliffs.
Saa’ir went to investigate the sighting of the creature and came face to face with the beautiful and brilliant Cirogaan the Golden, with whom he became wholly captivated. Out of his utter fascination with Cirogaan, he helped to hide him and eventually became a companion to him. They exchanged many stories, Cirogaan told tales of battles with an old enemy named Mirafra in the deserts of Egypt, of the existence of angels among mankind, and laments of his departed twin sister Mangata. Saa’ir, in turn, often spoke of his spiritual endeavours and passion for healing the body. The demon, having sensed Saa’ir’s fervor and his rather unique energy, offered that he could turn his knowledge of medicine and healing into a considerable power, even that he could stave off illnesses known to be incurable. The price, of course, was that Saa’ir would then belong to Cirogaan. Saa’ir needed very little convincing, the potency of Cirogaan’s power to enrapture was irresistible.
Saa’ir was a witness to many of Cirogaan’s sinister deeds. One year after their pact was formed, the demon returned to Saa’ir home with a rather peculiar artifact covered in blood. He revealed it as the halo of Archangel of Honor (or the Solar Halo), which he had procured to aid him in a “special experiment”. In anguish and horror, no longer able to bear the burden of being complicit in Cirogaan’s schemes and violence, Saa’ir attempted to flee Pakistan with the halo. While on the journey, the halo seemed to attune itself to Saa’ir’s presence and occasionally produced a faint glow or strange sounds.
Saa’ir crossed the Arabian Sea and went into hiding in Oman. Eventually he was escorted into the United Arab Emirates by a peacekeeper named Siraj Al-Neyadi and taken to a safehouse in the Al Hajar Mountains. Though a matter of duty and secrecy, Saa’ir and Siraj developed feelings for each other and eventually fell in love. Unfortunately for Saa’r, their first kiss breached his pact with Cirogaan which filled him with agony and nearly killed him. His body was left with golden scarring on one side which echoed both the beauty and evil of Cirogaan; he became the first known human being to survive the breaking of a demonic pact. Siraj, as a witness to this horror, vowed to remain with Saa’ir and protect him no matter the cost.
Following these disastrous events, Saa’ir was the first to beseech Amir Tatakera (Mirafra) to aid in what he thought may be a dangerous precedent in demon encounters.
